The Cube - Studio, Spa, and Outlook

Conceived as a quiet architectural counterpoint to the dynamic, twisting, and torquing forms of the property's primary vacation residence (See Family Vacation Residence), this multi-tiered pavilion introduces a sense of absolute geometric order in contrast to the natural landscape. The design embraces the pure typology of the cube, utilizing a rigorous, singular volume to house an intricate vertical program. By compressing four distinct functions into a near-perfect platonic solid, the structure acts as a grounding anchor on the site, demonstrating how restraint in form can yield a rich complexity of spatial experience.

The programmatic narrative unfolds vertically across four dedicated levels, meticulously responding to the site's topography. Embedded directly into the slope, the lowest level contains a heavy, utilitarian workshop. The grade allows the second level, the artist studio, to also maintain a direct connection to the ground, flooding the creative workspace with stable, natural light while harnessing vast, expansive views. Ascending further reveals an elevated, introspective sauna and spa sanctuary, culminating finally in an open-air rooftop outlook that frames panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Synthesizing this vertical progression is a brilliant exercise in threshold and movement. An outermost, ethereal wood skin wraps the entire structure, acting as a permeable veil between the interior conditioned core and the natural environment. Within this interstitial space, an open-air staircase wraps the building's perimeter. Spanning a single level per facade, the staircases form a continuous single helix, transforming the act of ascent into a ritualistic promenade with vistas. As inhabitants climb toward the observation deck, they are treated to a shifting cadence of light, shadow, and view through the timber screen. This modern cube studio architecture avoids the noise of superfluous gesture, relying instead on pure geometry, elemental materials, and a poetic vertical promenade to create a sanctuary for craft, wellness, and contemplation.
